Our Week 11 Top Logistics Stories
It’s week 11 and here are three stories you should be updating your customers and prospects on this week. They need your expertise!
Shippers may not be aware of what’s occurring or its importance, so offering your assistance and insights will help you build a stronger relationship with them.
Knowing what’s going on in the market is only half the battle. Your customers need to be told what to do about it and they should hear that from you.
1. Tariffs remain the top story for supply chains. Canadian and Mexican duties are in effect and threats for more tariffs continue for those and other countries. And it’s not just shipping costs that will change. Doing business in a new country means changes in other ways, too. Manufacturing infrastructure and workers’ skills can vary greatly across a region. Helping clients build more resiliency into their supply chain is a huge need right now.
2. Tariffs and the surrounding uncertainty are weighing on the economy, for the short term at least. Consumers are cutting spending according to recent data and the stock market is down this month. Unfortunately, things may get worse before they get better. For shippers, this means US trucking rates are likely to remain low for the time being until the economy picks up again.
3. Overshadowed by tariffs, but still important, is the Red Sea Crisis. This is the most severe global supply chain disruption of the last year. Attacks have been paused for about a month but are again being threatened. Ocean carriers are still routing many ships away from the region which is increasing ocean freight costs and delaying deliveries globally.
Of course, these stories are just a small part of what’s going on in the supply chain space right now. Updating your clients on how this and other information is relevant to their business is a way to provide more value and strengthen your relationships.
