Our Week 7 Top Logistics Stories
Here are three stories logistics companies should be updating their customers and prospects on this week.
Shippers may not be aware of what’s occurring or its importance, so offering your assistance and insights will help you build a stronger relationship with them.
Knowing what’s going on in the market is only half the battle. Your customers need to be told what to do about it and they should hear that from you.
1. Tariffs are again the top story for supply chains. The latest surprise is a 25% duty for steel and aluminum effective next month. The tariff situation is extremely dynamic and very impactful to almost all shippers, so make sure to keep your customers up to date, which could mean daily.
2. A story within the tariff news is the return of de minimis. The administration has suspended the suspension of the rule that allows companies to more cheaply important low-value goods until a process is developed to handle the inevitable spike in duty-eligible goods.
3. The threat of tariffs is creating more shipping demand in pretty much all modes as companies are looking to stock up on pre-tariff products as much as possible. As the tariffs hopefully come into focus in the coming months, look for freight rates to react accordingly. However, companies should not expect any relief in the short term. There is just too much uncertainty.
Of course, these stories are just a small part of what’s going on in the supply chain space right now. Updating your clients on how this and other information is relevant to their business is a way to provide more value and strengthen your relationships.
